What is Resilient Flooring?

Resilient flooring also called vinyl flooring is a type of flooring made from carefully selected natural and synthetic materials like PVC, rubber, linoleum, etc.

The resilient flooring system is denser and non-absorbent in nature. They assure a pliant surface that makes comfortable walking. These flooring also assure guarantee in having lesser maintenance.

Today’s resilient flooring is a highly engineered combination of polymer materials. Polymers are large molecules composed of repeating structural units, which allow for increased strength and durability for the lifetime of the product. This product construction has changed over the years, just as products in other industries have incorporated new and better technology, resilient flooring has as well.

Types of Resilient Flooring Used in Buildings

Vinyl Sheet Flooring

Vinyl resilient sheet flooring is an engineered combination of polymer materials manufactured in a continuous length in widths ranging from 6 – 16. This forms a continuous finished resilient floor covering. This can be either solid vinyl or a backed one. The sheet vinyl has fewer joints (due to availability as sheets). They are used in spill, dirt or bacterial growth prevention areas.

Resilient Sheet Flooring

Generally, Vinyl resilient sheet consists of an internal layer of high quality felt, created in our felt manufacturing facility. The felt is then fused printed layer.

Finally, a wear layer that combines the chosen additives is applied, creating a product with the final properties that are desired. Vinyl sheet is well suited for many types of residential and commercial applications from light to heavily-trafficked areas.

Vinyl Tile and Plank Flooring

Also known as Luxury Vinyl Tile, and includes Luxury Vinyl Plank, resilient tile products are available in a wide variety of sizes and thicknesses. The base construction varies from product to product, but the base is primarily a limestone composite material that is formed into solid sheets of varying thicknesses by heat and pressure and cut into the desired shape; a 16 x 16 tile for example.

A photographic representation on a film is applied and encapsulated under a wear surface. Depending on the thickness of the plank or tile and the wear surface thickness and technology, Luxury vinyl tile and luxury vinyl plank can be used in residential, light commercial and even full commercial applications.

Resilient Tile and Plank

The vinyl flooring can be done with the help of vinyl tiles. There are two types of vinyl tile:

  • Solid Vinyl Tile
  • Vinyl Composition Tile (VCT)

The solid vinyl tile is also called as the homogeneous tile. It consists of more PVC than VCT. This makes the solid vinyl tile more resilient towards the abrasion forces. These also possess a higher indentation resistance and rolling or load resistance. These have continuous pattern through the floor thickness, that makes a consistent appearance.

Rubber Flooring

Rubber flooring consists of natural rubbers that are accompanied by many filling compounds. The rubber as a raw material itself is highly exorbitant, which makes this method more expensive.

These flooring systems are available in tiles and sheets. The rubber flooring is carried out on an even floor. This installation can be carried out only by specialized people.

Rubber flooring and skirting are of different types. The backing of fabric or foams or sheets with fabric inset are the types they are also available. These have higher chances to get depleted when they are exposed to higher heat when it also has moisture exposure.
